The Authority is charged with maintaining a basin-wide inventory of water resources, providing administrative and technical assistance to public entities for development and maintenance of water for economic growth, providing financial assistance toward pollution control, public facilities, and flood control, and giving legal sponsorship to any feasible public works project. With that, the Authority supports the needs of local communities, industry, agriculture, and the environment playing a critical role in the management and coordination of the water systems that sustain this vast region.
In addition to its water management efforts, the Red River Authority works closely with federal, state, and local agencies, as well as private entities, to maintain a balanced approach to resource development. This includes not only ensuring reliable water supply, but also preserving the natural ecosystems that depend on the Red River Basin. The Authority is committed to addressing modern water challenges like drought, aging infrastructure, and population growth, making it an essential partner in the future water sustainability of North Texas.
